DT125X: Hard edged Supermotard

image

The new 125 cc machines are the first choice if you simply want a lightweight bike or you have an A1 license (motorcycle up to 125 cc) and want to enjoy real motorcycle riding. They combine the light weight and good handling characteristics with the components of a real motorcycle. Yamaha test riders believe: " With the new DT 125X you can have a lot of fun and a real Supermotard feeling in particular in tight corners. Its light weight makes it easy to control the machine under all circumstances." Even bigger machines may have difficulties to keep up with this hard edged Supermotard in narrow corners.

Indeed in particular the DT 125X, the new Supermotard version, based on the well known DT 125RE, is the highlight in Yamaha's new range of 125cc machines. With the basic layout of the DT 125RE, this new machine has undergone a couple of significant changes to adopt it for road use as a real Supermotard.

Significant modifications

Main modifications are:

  • Front fork (41 mm and 200 mm travel)
  • 298 mm single front disc with Brembo caliper
  • 17 inch Excel aluminum rims with wide tyres (120/70-17 & 140/70-17)
  • New bodywork
  • New seat (shape to fit sports riding)
  • New chassis geometry

To make the bike function well on tarmac, the caster angle has been reduced from 27 to 24,5 degrees and the trail shortened from 107 mm to 74 mm. This gives the DT 125X a very nimble and direct response to riders input on the handlebars. The bike steers instant and is very controllable at the same time.

Power: brakes and acceleration
The test riders confesses:" The enormous 298 mm single disc brake stops the DT's 122 kg (dry weight) extremely effective. You can have a lot of fun on this bike."
The single 2 stroke engine's quick throttle pickup adds to the riding excitement and makes the bike a first choice for enthusiasts.

Well known heritage

Both DT and XT feature a long model range heritage.
The DT line up, representing 2 stroke single cylinder dual purpose/off-road, was developed over a period of more than 30 years, starting with the famous air-cooled DT 1 (250cc) in 1968. The DT 125MX followed in 1973. One of the most famous first customers of that model was the French actress Brigitte Bardot. The DT range contributed a lot to the later success of trail bikes in Europe.

The DT 125RE launched last year (2004), represents the latest development stage of this popular 2-stoke dual purpose bike. Inspired by the race breed machines of the the WR-series, this lightweight bike features a newly designed bodywork, including airscoops and tank as well as a new catalytic converter to adopt to the latest emission regulations in Europe.
